Gary H. Mize

Gary H. Mize, 73, passed away October 3, 2018 in Crossville, TN where he has resided for the past 20 years with his wife Lila. Gary was born in Shelbyville, IL on December 7, 1944, the third son of William Herman Mize and Gladys Eagleton Mize. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one grandson, Jacob Stuart Matherly.

Gary leaves his wife, Lila Mize; four daughters and one son: daughters, Gina Smith of Pineville, NC, Susan Lockhart of Crossville, TN, Becky (Joe) Luka of Decatur, IL, Lanette (Greg) Lucado of Lynchburg, VA, and son, Gary L. (Amanda) Mize of Crossville, TN. He leaves three brothers, Stanley (Judy) Mize of Sevierville, TN, Richard (Linda) Mize of Dunnellon, FL, and Michael Mize of Stewardson, IL; two sisters, Carolyn (Glenn) Ruff of Shelbyville, IL and Cheryl (Dennis) Woods, of Shelbyville, IL; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Bill) Davis of Westmoreland, TN and Charlotte Butler of Charleston, IL.

Gary served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966. He was married to Lila (Payne) Mize on July 1, 1967, and they were marred for 51 years. He was a welder at Caterpillar, Inc. in Decatur, IL for 30 years before moving to Crossville.

Gary was a former member and Elder of Mound Road Christian Church in Decatur, a current member of the UAW Local 751 in Decatur, IL, and a member and Elder of First Christian Church in Crossville, TN.

Gary loved his family and had a passion for his home and music. He enjoyed playing his guitar and working outside, but God was consistently first in his life.

Daniel (Boone) McKeown

Daniel (Boone) McKeown, 39, passed away September 29, 2018. He was born December 22, 1978 to Wayne and Janis (Jenny) Amonett McKeown in Cumberland County, TN.

He was currently employed at TLD Trucking. He had previously worked at the Crossville Chronicle, Vicosa, and Flowers Bakery.

He is survived by his parents; wife, Sharon; son, Zander McKeown; daughter, Charla McKeown; stepdaughters, Brittany and Baily; stepson, Brandon; stepgrandson, Nathaniel, all of Crossville; sisters, Cristina Journel of Crossville and Amber Wellman of Barberton, Ohio; and grandmother, Hilda Amonett of Crossville.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Amonett of Crossville and Edward and Louise McKeown of Florida.

Graveside services for Daniel will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 1:00 in Haley’s Grove Cemetery.

Dion Frate

Dion Frate, 94, was born on August 17, 1924 and passed away on September 26, 2018. Dion loved to go golfing and traveling.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine “Lorrie” Cantrell; and granddaughters, Fawn Dennis, Katelyn Frate, and Brice Frate.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carmelina Frate; son, Michael Frate; and brothers, Gino, Roland, and Victor Frate.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 7503 Peavine Road Crossville, TN 38558.

Ronald (Gene) Finley

Ronald (Gene) Finley, 74, was born on October 22, 1943 to the late Lucian and Stella Finley. He passed away on September 15, 2018.

Gene is survived by his wife, Margaret Finley; daughter, Wanda Lee Copley; and brother, Leslie Finley.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents.

Linda Marie LaBarge

Linda Marie LaBarge, 60, was born on May 27, 1958 in Pontiac, Michigan to Donald Paul McDonough and Grace Marie McSkulin. She passed away on September 20, 2018. Linda loved going bowling. She also enjoyed diamond painting and nail stamping.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald LaBarge, Jr.; children, Dominique LaBarge and Donald LaBarge (Mary Jo); grandchildren, Elijah, David, Julia, Renee, and Carlene; sisters, Sheryl Michaelson (Dennis) and Karen Myers (David); and brothers, Dennis McDonough (Jenny) and Scott McDonough (Gloria).

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 11 to 1 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Services for Linda will also be held on Saturday following visitation with Steven Law officiating.

Dollie Green

Dollie Green, 90, was born on June 11, 1928 in Jamestown, TN to the late Oscar and Atta York Smith. She passed away on September 16, 2018. Dollie greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and singing. She also loved to travel and be outdoors flower gardening and bird watching.

She is survived by her children, Kay Blalock (Jim), Lannie Green (Waunetta), Roger Green (Susan), Kathy Holpp, and Tracy Green (Tammy); 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; brother, Louie Smith; and sister, Fae Culp.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, H.L. Green; son, Jeffery Green; son-in-law, Gary Holpp; grandsons, Brian Green and Shane Blalock; great grandson, Hassel Lannie Green; and brother, Eugene Smith.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 5 to 8 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Dollie will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10 with Bro. Ken Clayton officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rinnie Cemetery.

 

Laura Denise Shelby Adams

Laura Denise Shelby Adams was born on December 8, 1961 and passed away on September 8, 2018. Laura was the daughter of Dennis Shelby and Betty Cooper. She was born at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.

Laura is survived by her daughters, Crystal Davidson and Tonya Davidson; five grandchildren; sisters, Sheila Cooper and Sandra Azzari; brother, Clifford Shelby; and a host of cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Dennis Shelby; mother, Betty Cooper; and step-father, Orland Cooper.

Laura loved gardening and her flowers, and her dogs meant the world to her. She loved her children and grandchildren so much and enjoyed every minute she got to be with them.

Memorial services for Laura will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Brenda Joy Houston

Brenda Joy Houston, 71, was born on February 6, 1947 to Willie and Etta Hedgecoth Watson in Cumberland County, TN. She passed away on September 10, 2018. Brenda had a great sense of humor, big blue eyes, and a gorgeous smile. One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She loved to be outside gardening or working in her flower beds that were filled with beautiful flowers. Brenda also loved to keep her bird feeders full and watch the birds that would flock to them. Brenda was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Old Fashioned Independent Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Haley (Adam); granddaughters, Kayla Abbott (Robbie), Sydney Burnett (Zaine Idema), and Savannah Haley; grandson, Hunter Haley; great granddaughter, Evelyn Abbott; sister, Willene Hamby; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Edward Houston; son, Billy Houston; daughter, Tammy Houston; parents, Willie and Etta Hedgecoth Watson; brother, Paul Watson; and sisters, Pat Beaty and Linda Watson.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Brenda will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 at the funeral home with Jeff Slayton officiating. She will be laid to rest in Houston Family Cemetery.

Amy Jo Garrett

Amy Jo Garrett, 38, passed away Sept. 5, 2018.

She is survived by her two children, Cameron and Jayda-Mae Garrett; father and stepmother, Mack and Judy Garrett, and mother, Marsha Rice; sisters, Carlene and Christy Garrett; a very special aunt, Lorrie Miller; cousin, David Miller; grandmothers, Carol Edwards and Ruth Garrett; three nephews; two nieces; several aunts and uncles.

Amy loved her children and family. She loved our Lord Jesus Christ.

There will be a celebration of Amy’s life at the Faith, Hope and Love Church Sept. 15, at noon. Amy will be missed by her family and many friends.

Danny Fletcher Lail

Danny Fletcher Lail was born on April 16, 1952 and passed away at home suddenly on September 5, 2018. He was born to Ned and Faye Lail. Danny was originally from Kingston and moved to Crossville in 2006. He was a former postman for USPS for 33 years. Danny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, and he will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ned Lail; sister, Sue Jewell, and granddaughter, Alyssa Thornton.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Lail; son, Keith Lail; and daughter, Heather Thornton and husband Alex; grandchildren, Logan and Jacob Thornton and Kiaira and Preston Lail; great grandchildren, Braxton Thornton and Kaisley Martinez all of Crossville, TN; mother, Faye Lail of Kingston; sisters, Barbara Dunsterville of Georgia and Ginger Hembree of Harriman, TN; brother, Buddy Lail of Athens, TN; brother-in-laws, Kenneth Jewell of Georgia and Geoff Dunsterville of Georgia; and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services for Danny will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Kerley officiating. Family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m.
