Brant Houston Brown

Brant H. Brown, age 61, was born on September 27th, 1961 to Delene F. Givens and Larry W. Brown in Walla Walla, Washington and passed away in Crossville, Tennessee on February 15th, 2023.

Brant grew up in the Seattle, Washington area and spoke fondly of his childhood in Federal Way and Glenoma, Washington. He described some of his happiest early memories as playing, picnicking, and learning to swim with his sister, Shelley and identical twin brother, Brian at Riffe Lake near his grandparent’s home. He moved to Tennessee in the early 1980s, helped operate his mother’s store on Hwy 70, and then worked in customer services and accounting at Lake Tansi, Tennessee for 15 years.

He enjoyed gardening most of all, a hobby he was able to share with his late beloved mother. His other interests included wildly spicy food, stained glass crafts, traveling, and witty comebacks. Brant was best described as ornery and lovable. Family meant more to him than anything else in the world and seeing his sons start families of their own brought him great joy. He was delighted by his grandchildren and loved watching them play.

He is preceded in death by his parents– Delene and Larry; uncle– Rodney Smith; as well as his grandparents– Arlene Grace and Delmer Q. Smith, and Evelyn and Wayne Brown.

Brant is survived by his sons– Michael Brown (Layla Franklin) and Branson “Boo” Brown (Rachel Gardner); four grandchildren– Briley, Ava, Karter, and Lilly; siblings– Brian Brown (Lavonda), Shelley Marshall (Steve), and Cassy Givens (Jamie Dillard); nieces and nephews– Amber, Stevey, Jessica, and Chris; his fiancé– Scarlet Holmes and her son Landon Holmes (Lauren); and many beloved friends and relatives.

Brant will be dearly missed and always remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Brant to one of the following: The American Cancer Society or The American Diabetes Association.

Jesse Lee Tharp, Jr.

Jesse Lee Tharp was born on December 15, 1949 in Crossville, TN to Myrtle and Jesse Lee Tharp. He was a veteran of the United States Army, after serving his country during Vietnam he worked at various construction companies throughout the Southeast. He married Sharon Tharp on December 5, 1974 and was the father to two children, Angela and Jesse Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sharon and his daughter, Angela. He leaves behind his son, Michael, daughter in law, Erin and two grandchildren, Lorelei (age 12) and Tucker (age 6), as well as the only cat he ever loved, Jack. Jesse was an avid fishermen and always up for a night out with his friends. He loved the beach and all things that had to do with the water and was never without his flip flops or fishing pole. He will be missed by numerous friends and family members and will be remembered for his laugh and love of life.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2-3pm with the service to follow at 3pm, Robert Newberry officiating.

Donald Brown Smith

Donald Brown Smith, 82, loving husband of the late Kelly Smith, was called home February 12, 2023.

Donald was born in Crossville, TN on March 4, 1940, to the late J. B. Smith and Jewell Dell Smith. He made his home and lived in the Vandever Community.

Donald worked at Crossville Rubber Products for 42 years as the plant manager. He enjoyed raising a garden and working outside. Donald was always ready to help a family member, friend, or neighbor when called upon. He liked operating equipment. Donald would bushhog, till gardens, and mow for hours. He loved working with his neighbor and friend, Elvert Brewer, on Elvert’s sawmill.

He is survived by his two daughters Regenia (Anthony) Findley and Lisa (Michael) Smith; three grandchildren Justin (Mashayla) Crabtree, Megan (Tony) Sherrill, and Hayden (Josie) Smith; and seven great grandchildren.

Donald is also survived by five sisters Frances Hassler, Jean Smith, Sue Music, Joyce Cooper, and Carolyn Sutton; and one brother Delbert Smith.

He also leaves behind life long friend and partner Leona Waites, her daughter Sonya, and her grandson Ben & wife Natalie.

Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm with the service to follow at 12pm, Brothers Benjamin J. Waites and Doyle Ashburn officiating. Donald will be laid to rest in Leffle Webb Cemetery immediately following the service.

Donald Smith was like a Dad to me. He always said I was the son he never had. He was a great man and will be missed dearly. ~~Written by Jason Kemmer

Milton Robert Gaedt, Jr.

Milton Gaedt, Jr, age 59, was born on June 25, 1963 to Milton and Marion Gaedt in Philadelphia, PA and passed away on February 12, 2023 in Knoxville, TN.

Milton was a Dad and Gramps first and foremost. He was a Master Craftsman and a self-proclaimed chef…who hated Mayo!! He enjoyed watching Nascar and taking naps. He also enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and riding ATV’s.

Milton is survived by his children Stephen (Megan) Gaedt and Cynthia (Logan) Edwards; grandchildren Malachi Gaedt, Roman Gaedt, Titus Gaedt, Carson Edwards, and expecting his fifth grandchild, a granddaughter; and his siblings Louis Gaedt, Sr., Alison Keife, and Paul Gaedt.

He was preceded in death by his parents Milton Robert Gaedt, Sr. and Marion Rose D’enofrio Gaedt.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Crossville City Cemetery at 10:00am.

Margaret Faulk Hamner

Margaret Hamner of Fairfield Glade was born on April 30,1931 to Thurston and Mary Atkinson Faulk in Memphis, TN and passed away on February, 11, 2023.

Margaret was a homemaker and a member of FFG Community Church.

Survivors include her daughter Linda Fuller of Stoney Point, NC; sons Tom Hamner of Atlanta, GA and David Hamner of San Francisco, CA; 5 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and her sister Mary Earles of Memphis, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thurston Pullen Faulk and Mary (Atkinson) Faulk; husband Clyde Hamner; son Michael Hamner; and brother John Faulk.

Buffy Joann (Davis) Keagle

Buffy Joann Keagle, age 54, was born on June 28, 1968 to General and Alma Davis in Elyria, OH and passed away on February 9, 2023 at her home in Crab Orchard, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents General and Alma (Haney) Davis; sisters Debbie and Penny Davis; and brother Michall Davis.

Buffy is survived by her daughters Amanda Waldo and Sandra (Steven) Jenkins, both of Crossville, TN; grandchildren Clayton (Bubby) Waldo, Emily Waldo, Leah Jenkins, and Andy Jenkins, all of Crossville, TN; brother James Davis of Crossville, TN; sisters Rhonda (Eddie) Brock of Richmond, KY and Tina Newton of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews; two special friends Sparky Ayers and David Norris; and a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

A Graveside service will be held on at Prichard Cemetery in Knox County, KY, Craig Ward officiating.

Joan Marie Roberts

Leaving a legacy of love, Joan M. Roberts passed peacefully on February 8, 2023. One of seven children born to Joseph and Bernadine West, she lived most of her life in upstate New York near beautiful Oneida Lake.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Donald Roberts, her parents, and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Victoria (Mike) Siczak; granddaughters Jessica (Corey) Willis, Jennifer (Jake) Shirah; along with a sister, brother, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Abiding by her final wishes, there will be a private family service in Crossville and she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pine Plains Cemetery in New York. Her family welcomes prayers and would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to all the caregivers and staff at Wyndridge Health and Caris of Crossville for their dedication and loving care they provided over the years.

Benjamin Terry Burton

Ben Burton, age 81, was born on August 17, 1941 to Ben and Mildred Burton in Silver Point, TN and passed away on February 7, 2023 in Crossville, TN.

Ben is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth (Goodale) Burton; sons Benjamin Samuel (Bethany) Burton and Charles Freeman; grandchildren Max Burton, Elyse Burton, Alexis Cheyenne (Wesley) Carter, and Shawnasea Adams (Daniel York); great grandchildren Nalah Adams, Addison Carter, and Aspen York; and brothers Joe Burton, Phillip Burton, and Steve Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Hooper Burton and Mildred Sue (Shanks) Burton; and his brother Jack Burton.

Services will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm with the service to follow at 2:00pm, Pastor Steven Pickard officiating. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery immediately following the service.

Pallbearers include Ben Burton, Max Burton, Charles Freeman, Chris Westmoreland, Greg Lack, and Randy Lamphere. Honorary pallbearers include Elyse Burton, Alexis Cheyenne Carter, Shawnasea Adams, and Michael Lowery.

Libby Seguin

Libby Seguin, age 85, was born on May 22,1937 to Irving and Tilly Schultz Hurwitz in Brooklyn, NY and passed away on January 29, 2023 in Crossville, TN. She worked for the United States Postal Service.

She is survived by her husband- Richard Seguin; children- Alan Horowitz (Gayle), Terry Horowitz, Carol Lytle (James), Robert Horowitz (Dee), and Debra D’Orio (John); seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother- Steven Hurwitz and son- Neal Horowitz.

There will be a memorial service at the Cumberland Medical Center Chapel on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Rolf Weeks officiating.

Garry Junior Murphy

Garry Junior Murphy, age 69, was born on April 30,1953 to John Bedford and Clara Mae Roberts Murphy in Monterey, TN and passed away on February 2, 2023 in Crossville, TN. When he was young, he worked for the City of Monterey, and his professions included being a grave digger for Goff Funeral Home, a mechanic, and working for the Monterey Hammer Mill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife- Dolly Pugh Murphy; children- Dustin Murphy (Taylor), Jesse Murphy (Angel), Daniel Murphy, Jimmy Murphy, Michael Carlton, and Mary Sheets; 17 grandchildren; siblings- Joyce Harvell (Jim), Lois Reynolds, and Jimmy Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, children- Ashley Nicole Murphy and David Lee Murphy; siblings- Patricia Sisco, Shirley Hassler, Larry Murphy, Barbara Threet, Linda Murphy, Bobby Murphy and Donny Murphy.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the funeral home from 5 to 8. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 11:00 in Lovejoy Cemetery in Monterey, TN. Bro. Eugene McCowan will officiate.
