Lawrence “Rocky” Long, 88, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 1st 2021. He was born October 20. 1932 to Abe Wallace Long and Ova Owens Long in Palmer, TN. He was the youngest of 12 children.
Rocky joined the US Army when he was 16 years old and after being wounded on the front lines went on to become a supervisor at Crossville Rubber Products and Manchester Tank. Before he retired, he worked for the City of Crossville.
He was a wonderful Christian man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to work in the garden and especially loved Sunday dinners with his entire family. This was a tradition that carried on for over 25 years until the Sunday before his eath.
Rocky enjoyed hunting for ginseng, watching old western movies, and he kept his mind sharp by working hundreds of puzzles over the years. He also read through the Bible six times in one year.
He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for over 30 years and also served as a deacon. He loved to work in the church and do anything he could to lead others to Christ. He spent years putting together Bibles that could be shipped all over the world.
Rocky is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willie Miller Long; sons, Larry Long and David Long; granddaughters, Melanie Kabore, Alyson (Jason) Hale, and Chelsey Long; five great grandchildren and two sisters, Lenora Henke (100) and Dorothy Clawson (94).
