Broxine Marie Weatherford, “Nellie,” was born on September 4, 1948 in Stewart County, TN to James Lester Weatherford and Vestie Elizabeth Jones Weatherford. She passed away on June 7, 2020 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She is survived by one brother, Paul Shelby and wife, Joycean, and two nieces, Shirley Shelby Rice and Lisa Shelby Hart, and special friend, Thelma Ann Eldridge and her family. She also leaves behind a host of special friends at Hilltoppers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Kelly, brother, John William Shelby, nephew, William Roy Shelby, and special friends, Clifton Smith, Louise Ford, and Carmen Hamilton. Nellie was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Nellie came to Hilltoppers as a resident at the Parker Home in November 1994. The following May she moved in to a family based home with Thelma Ann Eldridge and Louise Ford. She resided at that home until April 2013 when her health declined, and she required the care of nurses.

Nellie was very easy going, and everybody that met her loved her. She was very kind to everyone she met and always remembered their name. She enjoyed reading and was very proud of her ability to read. She would read aloud and if she saw you were impressed by her ability, she continued to get louder and louder. She would also do the same with her singing, which was not always a good thing, but she thought she was the best. She said she was going to perform on the Grand Ole Opry. She beamed with confidence. She was extremely proud of her pretty blue eyes. She loved new clothes, and if you told her that her clothes looked nice, she would agree with you and say they brought out the blue in her eyes. She once said all the girls are jealous of me. She was also very complimentary to everyone else no matter what the case. Nellie was a great person with a big heart and will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services for Nellie will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 2:00 with Michael Lowery officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00. She will be laid to rest in Fairview (Red Top) Cemetery in Indian Mound, TN on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 12:00.
