Edith Juris Schrottke died peacefully at age 75 on February 1, 2016. Beloved by Gustav, her husband of 53 years, Edith is also survived by daughter Karin Price, son-in-law David and grandsons Aaron, Adam and Alex; daughter Ellen Bogle, son-in-law Brad and grandchildren Grant, Lauren and Lindsay; sisters-in-law Rosalie Juris, Dolores Juris, Louise McDowell, Eileen Ball, Joan Slack and brother-in-law Lee Schrottke; cousin Barbara Kubik; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Stephen Juris, and beloved brothers Edward Juris and Allan Juris.
Edith loved music, especially Frank Sinatra, Abba and the Bee Gees. No one expected to win against Edith in games or trivia. The New York Times crossword puzzle was a quick task for her. Edith was an avid reader, a Broadway aficionado, and loved cross stitch and embroidery. She fiercely loved her grandchildren. Edith was proud of her New York heritage. She was once seen leaning over the bow of a dear friend’s boat, arms outstretched, singing “New York, New York.” Edith was known to have a perfect song for every situation. She loved a good healthy sun tan and swimming in the ocean. Jeopardy and Bones were favorites. Edith and Gus loved to travel, went on an African safari, cruised to Alaska, Norway, Greece, Turkey and the Caribbean and visited Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, England, Ireland and Hawaii.
Intelligent and beautiful, proud, strong and loving, Edith’s large personality was a presence. A loved one remembered, “One thing about Edie, she never did anything she didn’t want to do!” She will be remembered for her love of family, her vast intelligence and her strength.
