Frederick Harvey Arnold of Crossville, TN passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2015.
Born in Flushing, NY on April 19, 1923, he was the son of the late James Irza and Anna (Muendlein) Arnold. During the Great Depression at the age of 11, his father sent the family to live at the family homestead in Jordan, NY. After graduating from Jordan High School in June 1942, he entered aeronautical school. He spent the next few years serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Soon after marrying Dagmar Louise Olson in Flushing, NY on March 22, 1947, they moved to upstate New York where they raised a family of eight children, moving from Jordan to Altamont and then to North Chatham. Mr. Arnold retired after a long career with the State of New York as an architectural draftsman. Upon retirement in the late 1980’s, he and his wife moved to Crossville, TN where they spent almost 30 happy years together.
Mr. Arnold was a skilled artist, craftsman and musician. He enjoyed traveling, aviation, gardening, bird watching, drawing, and wood carving. He also loved listening to and playing both pipe and theatre organ. He assembled and enjoyed playing two pipe organs in his homes in upstate New York. He also co-authored songs with some of his children. He had a great sense of humor and ability to make his family laugh. Most important, he loved the Lord Jesus Christ and is now in his eternal home, present with the Lord.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Dagmar; four daughters, Barbara (Darryl) Packer of Canandaigua, NY, Susan Arnold of Crossville, TN, Nancy (Randi) Shadic of Hillsdale, NY, Juliana (Mark) Swan of Macon, GA; three sons, Stephen (Debbie) Arnold of Ravena, NY, Frederick (Sandy) Arnold of Weedsport, NY and Alan (Heather) Arnold of Marietta, NY. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, 18 great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Karen (Bernie) Podsiedlik of Crossville, TN, three sisters, two brothers, one niece and one nephew.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12 at 10 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene at 2565 North Main Street in Crossville, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Flowers can be sent to the Crossville Memorial Funeral Home at 2653 North Main Street, Crossville, TN 38555.
