John “Woody” Gearheart, a Lake Tansi resident since 1990, passed away at the age of 88. There will be a visitation on January 31, 2015 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 with Rev. Hank Jones of Crossville officiating. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or The American Heart Association.
John was born on Feb. 14, 1926 in Morehead, KY to John and Ruby Gearheart. Mr. Gearheart served his country in the U.S. Navy. He made a career and retired from Commercial Plumbing. All who knew him recognized his love for golf, fishing, and sports world in general. “Woody” never missed a chance to watch and root for the KY Wildcats.
Mr. Gearheart was married to the former Ollie Crouch Gearheart of Forbus, TN. Ollie, Woody and their two surviving children: son, Larry V. Gearheart of Pioche NV, and daughter Diane Gearheart of Austin, TX, lived in Gaston, IN before moving to Lake Tansi in 1990. Other survivors include brother: Donald Gearheart of Phoenix, AZ; sister: June Gearheart of Mesquite, TX. A host of loving friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by: parents: John and Ruby [DeBoard] Gearheart; sisters: Ada Casey, Gladys Berger, and Addie Barndale; brothers: Norm Cowan, Allen Tucker, Melbourne, Coleman, and James.
