Lonnie Bruce Franklin

Bruce0002Mr. Lonnie “Bruce” Franklin, born May 20, 1928, age 85, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 25th surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ima Carey Franklin and his son Michael Bruce Franklin. He is survived by his four daughters, Sharon Franklin, Nena Hayes (Larry Jones), Judy Houston (Rick Houston), Carol Smith (Russell Smith), his son Glen Franklin (Tammy Franklin), his brother Doug Franklin (Faye Franklin), and his sisters-in-law, Shirley Simmons, Ollie Carey and Keither Luttrell (Horace Luttrell).

His pride and joy was in his 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He gave love to countless “adopted” nieces, nephews and grandchildren who added much delight to his life. Grandpa loved to watch the little ones “run through the house like deer”.
He was born “on the side of a mountain” in Cracker’s Neck, Virginia. He learned the trades of rock laying and sand and finish hardwood installation. He met and married the love of his life, Ima Franklin, at the age of 19. He was the owner and operator of Franklin Auto Sales of Peavine Road. The Franklins made their home in Crossville for the past 42 years. They opened their home frequently to anyone who needed a place to stay; be it for the night or the year.
Mr. Franklin served in Osaka, Japan during the second World War with the Army Air Force, USAAF 5th Air Force.
The family would like to thank all those who came to visit, sent cards and prayed for Dad during this time. We truly appreciate the love you have shown.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Franklin officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joshua Houston, Nathan Smith, Bruce Smith, Jared Houston, Jason Tollett, and Sam Sherrill. Honorary pallbearer is Aaron Ward. Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.
