Carol Jackson Frey, 65, of Fairfield Glade, passed away June 19, 2013.

Mrs. Frey was born June 15, 1948 in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Howard and Jeanne Jackson. She was raised in Bradley, Illinois and was valedictorian of Bradley/Bourbonnais High School.

As a Girl Scout, Carol began volunteering at the Easter Seal Center in Kankakee, Illinois. The meaningful experience led her to spend much of her adult life working with children with disabilities. She earned a bachelor degree in occupational therapy at the University of Illinois and a master of education degree in guidance and counseling at the University of Toledo.  She was a leader in her profession holding department chair positions in Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio and California. Carol was a frequent school district consultant and a member of numerous university faculties across the nation. Additionally, for several years, Carol was a loving foster parent in Michigan and Ohio.

Throughout her life, Carol created beautiful arts and crafts which she gave to friends and those in need. Her knitted prayer shawls provided comfort to many and her baby booties warmed many little feet. Carol always had a sweet smile to greet you. Her countenance announced to all who met her that she was indeed a special lady.

Carol was preceded in death by her father and mother. Survivors include a sister, Ann Charters of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Mark Jackson of Bradley, Illinois; and husband, William Frey of Fairfield Glade.

Crossville Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Visitation will be 10:30 am – 1:30 pm, June 27 at Saint Raphael’s Episcopal Church on Sparta Highway in Crossville. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Crossville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to local food pantries.
