Lawrence Johnson, age 89, was born on June 21, 1923 in Rocky Mount, NC and died on October 14, 2012 in Crossville, TN. He enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II. He spent his professional career with the CSX Railroad, starting out as a locomotive engineer and then becoming a supervisor and retiring from CSX. He loved to work on cars and anything with an engine.
He is survived by his beloved companion- Amy Bilbrey; sons- Lawrence E. Johnson Jr. (Margie) and Philip J. Johnson (Angelica); daughters- Kimberly M. Simpson (Jerry), Shaun J. Burgess (Jeff), and Laura D. Gicker (Todd); 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sisters- Juanita Hurley and Betty Jean Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents- William and Sadie Hill Johnson; two wives- Marna Switzer Johnson and Dorothy Westberry Johnson; and daughter- Julie V. Johnson.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, from 5-8 pm at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be the following day on Thursday at 2:00 pm with burial in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
