Edward Eugene Burgess “Gene” Obituary (1933

Edward Eugene Burgess "Gene", age 87, was born on June 17, 1933 to Dalton and Jewel Vinson Burgess in Jackson County, TN. He passed away on May 4, 2021. He began preaching in October of 1956. He was an evangelist in California, Michigan, and Tennessee for six and a half years. After pastoring in Sparta, he moved back to Crossville and built a new church in 1978 and spend the remainder of his years pastoring there. He spent a total of 50 years in Crossville. Gene was an amazing singer and musician. He will be remembered for his humor, love and kindness. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Burgess; daughters, Tabitha (Aaron) deVogel and Holly McGill; sister, Diane (Junior) Draper; grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Jesse, and Jewel; and nephew, Kevin (Shari) Burgess. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alvin Burgess. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 11 to 3 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Gene will also be held on Monday following visitation with Jerry Barnwell and Drew Eastes officiating. He will be laid to rest in Crossville City Cemetery.
