Stephen J. Miller

Stephen James Miller, 66, of Crossville, TN went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 6, 2019 after a brief illness at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.Stephen was born August 3, 1953 to Milbourne and Wilma Miller in Nashville, MI.  He was the fourth of eight children, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Much of Stephen’s career was in the communications industry where he moved multiple times.  He retired from Verizon in August of 2015 after working in Mississippi, Colorado and Texas.  Upon retirement he moved his family from San Angelo, TX to Crossville, TN. Stephen was active in his local church throughout his life, serving in many different roles as the need arose.  Most recently Stephen was an active member of Redemption Church in Crossville.  He shared his faith readily and was always quick to get involved when he perceived a need.

He is survived by his wife , Lois Sue Miller of Crossville; sons, Jeremy Todd Miller of Crossville and Timothy Stephen Miller (Kristie) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Merritt and Melissa Merritt; great grandchild, Raegan Lacombe; father,  Rev Milbourne Miller of Joelton, TN;  brothers, Mark Miller (Shari) of Ellijay, GA; Nathan Miller (Linda) of Joelton, TN; Paul Miller of Cartersville, GA; sisters, Renee’ Miller of Aurora, CO; Sarah Williams (Keith)  of Dalton, GA; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma (Burkert) Miller; sister, Mary Joyce Drake (Miller); brother, Phillip Miller.

Stephen’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service at 2:00 PM Wednesday, Nov 13 at Redemption Church located at 75 Commercial Drive, Crossville, TN with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.

John M. Clack Jr.

John M. Clack of Signal Mt., TN was born on June 12, 1937 and died November 3, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Clack, daughter, Sabrina (Wayne) Schutt and Granddaughter Maddyn. The family will receive friends on November 6, 2019 from 10-11 am Central time at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Rocky Bradford will officiate.

Winifred Marie Sherrill

Winifred Marie Sherrill, age 91, was born April 26, 1928 to Homer and Hattie Godsey Tollett in Crab Orchard, TN and passed away on November 3, 2019 in her home in Crossville, TN. She worked in housekeeping in our local hospital and raised a loving family.

She is survived by her children- Janet Houston and Emmett Sherrill (Robin); and grandchildren- Mark Houston (Angie), Kellie Sherrill, and Leslie Bailey (Rob).

The family will receive friends at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 10 to 12 with service to follow in Haleys Grove Cemetery. Doug Monday will be officiating.

Andrew Ray Munns

Andrew Ray Munns, 81, of Crossville TN passed away on October 28th, 2019 leaving behind his wife of 57 years, Norma Munns, and his loving family. His services will Saturday November 2nd 2019 Visitation 11a-1p and Service at 1p. Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory INC. will be handling the services.

WIlliam “Billy” Grimsley

William ( Billy) Grimsley , age 54 , resident of Livingston, Tennessee passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on October 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. William was born on February 4, 1965 to William ( Bill) Cordell Grimsley and Phyllis Henry Grimsley in Columbia, Tennessee. He grew up in Columbia and attended Columbia Central High School. His work took him to Texas, Nashville and Cookeville where he eventually settled and made his home in Livingston, Tennessee. William worked for 19 years for Cummins, Inc (formerly Fleetguard) until his health forced him to take an early retirement.

William loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and being near the water. He loved Tennessee Football, especially the Tennessee Titans. Some of his favorite memories were attending games with his dad and watching the games at home with his family. William loved his family more than anything and loved being “Papa” to his pride and joy, his first grandson, Dawson Wayne. Sadly, William passed away before meeting his first granddaughter , Willa Lynn born on October 25, 2019.

William is survived by his children, Shelby Grimsley, Savannah ( fiancé Cody Stafford) Grimsley, Samuel ( fiancé Kris Ann Nivens) Grimsley ; Grandchildren , Dawson Wayne and Willa Lynn Stafford ; Mother, Phyllis Grimsley; Sister , Vanessa ( Kenneth) Purdom ; Nephew, Logan ( Alexis) Purdom ; Niece, Megan ( Grayson) Proctor ; Great-Niece, Evelyn James Purdom ; Mother of his children, Darlene Grimsley; Special friend, Saxton Officer ; His fur baby, Gus, who never left his side ; many cousins, aunts ,uncles and childhood friends who loved him dearly.

William is preceded in death by his beloved daddy, William ( Bill) Grimsley ; maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Celebration of William’s life will be Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Allons Church of Christ, 3154 Celina Hwy, Allons, Tn 38541 . Family will visit with friends from 11:00 am until time of the service at the church.

Radcliffe Clemson Varney

Radcliffe C. Ted Varney, formerly of Yarmouth, ME, was born July 2, 1931, the son of Harry D. and Phyllis Varney. He attended local schools and graduated from Deering High School, Class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of the Korean War and served four years. He attended the University of Maine, receiving a degree in business administration. He also graduated from the American Institute of Baking. Mr. Varney was employed by John J. Nissen Baking Company of New England. In 1994, after 38 years in management positions, he retired and moved to Crossville.
He was married to the former Nancy Chenevert for a period of 38 years until their divorce. He is survived by his wife, Janet Soncrant Varney; daughter, Sarah E. Varney of Rye, NY, two sons, John D. Varney of Florida and Charles J. Varney of Minnesota; granddaughter and grandson, Elinor and Matthew Vizard of Rye, NY; stepson, Kevin Soncrant and wife Raquel of Las Vegas, NV; stepdaughter, Stacy Fromholz; and grandsons, Hunter and Spencer of Indiana.
Mr. Varney was a watercolorist, whose favorite paintings were landscapes. He restored antique furniture and loved to attend auctions.

Bob L. Elmore

Bob Lowell Elmore, 83, of Crossville TN. passed away on October 15, 2019 in the comfort of his home and with family present. He was born June 20, 1936 in Crossville TN. Bob was a retired Milkman for Mayfield Dairy for 28 years.

Bob loved his family and was a proud grandfather who enjoyed attending family reunions and events. He was a devoted husband of 55 years to his beautiful bride Lucy Elmore and was a loving father. Bob was found to be the happiest when he outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, camping or all three, you would find a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Daniel Elmore and Agnus Lenora Owens; brother, Sam Elmore and sister Anna Grace Stout.

He was survived by his wife, Lois “Lucy” Elmore, and sons, Scott Elmore (Tina) and Tim Elmore; Grandchildren, Zack, Cody, and Brandi; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Bo, Ava, Dylan, and Michael; Brother, Jimmy Elmore; Sisters, Betty Faye Ward and Emogene Potter.

Graveside Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 18 2019 at Crossville City Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Services were provided by Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory INC.

Venable Lane Kearley

Venable Lane Kearley, 75, of Crossville passed away Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Cumberland Medical Center. He was born January 6, 1944 in Crossville, Tennessee, and he was a utility maintenance worker for the City of Crossville.

He is survived by wife, Karen Kearley; son, Michael Kearley; sisters, Georgia Gunter and Helen Findley (Tony); brother, Boyd Kearley (Sheila); mother and father-in-law, William and Geneva Manery. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, George Rice Kearley; mother, Mattie Lou (Brookhart) Kearley; son, Scott Lane Kearley; and Norma “Peewee” Hargis.

Funeral services will be held on October 16, 2019 at 3 PM. He will be laid to rest in Hyder Cemetery in Crossville.

William Earl Johnson

William Earl Johnson, age 82, was born on December 14, 1936 to Thomas and Laura Bell Carson Johnson in Carney Fork, NC and passed away October 10, 2019 in Crossville, TN.

His service will be held graveside in Tollets Chapel Cemetery on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 3:00 pm. George Willis will be officiating.

David “Larry” Eaves

David “Larry” Eaves passed in peace October 4, 2019, at the age of 72. He is preceded in death by parents Dennis JR Eaves and Regina Hill Eaves; sister, Karen Eaves Ware. He is survived by wife of 50 years, Diane Liner Eaves. Loving father of Jeffery Brian Eaves and Jennifer Leigh Eaves. Proud grandfather of Gage Chandler Tomberlin. Loving brother of Linda Eaves Thomas and Denise Eaves Crowder.

Larry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He also had a successful career, retiring from both the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, TN and Flynn Enterprises in Hopkinsville, KY. Larry was a huge football fan, attending Middle Tennessee State University on a football scholarship. He received his degree in Geology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His hobbies included building/flying RC airplanes, watching Tennessee football, and golf. Larry loved spending time with his family, including fishing or traveling with his wife, being active in the Boy Scouts of America with his son, attending his daughter’s cheer and dance competitions, and building projects with his grandson. Larry will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his infectious laugh, love of people, and overwhelming kindness.
