JD Whittenberg

JD Whittenberg, age 84, was born on October 18, 1935 in Pleasant Hill, TN to AC and Ada Mae Neal Whittenburg and passed away March 4, 2020 in Pleasant Hill, TN. JD was a member of the Church of Christ at De Rossett and a retired farmer.

He is survived by wife- Norma Yott Whittenberg of Pleasant Hill, daughter- Dianna S. Wells of Memphis, son- Gary W. Whittenberg of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren- Michelle Whittenberg of California, Ada Whittenberg of Crab Orchard, Whitney Danielle McDonald and Alexis McDonald of Chattanooga, Bret McDonald of California; great grandchildren- Ziah Whittenberg and Luna McDonald of California; and brother- Bob Whittenberg of Alabama.

He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter- Tessa Whittenberg of Crossville; sisters- Dorothy Neal, Orthey Bumbalough, Wanda Whittenberg, Jean Chastian, Shirley Stewart, Christine Thompson and Lennie Whittenberg; brothers- Lloyd and Floyd Whittenberg of Pleasant Hill, Glen and Paul Whittenburg of Crossville.

The family received friends at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, March 8, 2020, from 1:00 to 2:30 with service following. Bro. Roy Whited officiated with the burial in Old Bon Air Cemetery.

Barbara Ellen Buell

Barbara Ellen Buell, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2020. In her early years, she was employed as a doctor’s assistant and bank teller. Barbara was a dedicated mother, and she enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She volunteered in many community activities in Rochester, NY including school and church events, Meals on Wheels, and other volunteer activities. Since retiring, Barbara has been living in Fairfield Glade, TN where she continued her volunteer activities with the Lion’s Club, Habitat For Humanity, Peavine Care Center, and the Cumberland County Playhouse.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Byron Buell and daughter, Catherine Buell. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Frances Strouse and siblings.

Services for Barbara will be held at a later date at Fairfield Glade Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Fairfield Glade Community Church, Alzheimer’s of Tennessee (alztennessee.org) or charity of your choice.

Martin H. Young Jr.

Martin Hatfield Young Jr. of Crossville TN passed away on March 3rd 2020. He was loved and cherished by his wife, Margrit Young and family.

Martin was a man who enjoyed the outdoors as well as woodworking projects with his grandson. The outdoors reeled in his vitality of life through the sport of fishing, preferably, Big Bass Fishing. He loved fishing and collecting Fishing Reels of different levels that he would refurbish. He shared the love of fishing with his father, grandfather, and his brother. He also loved to garden, he tended to his fruit trees, grapevines, walnut trees, and even dried fruits! Martin was a man who loved Ford Mustangs he bought and refurbished several. Martin could be caught relaxing inside to a good book, he never stopped reading and learning.

Martin Young was survived by his loving wife; Margrit Young; Sons, Michael (Melanie) Young and Patrick Young; Grandchildren, Logan, Madeleine, and Gabriel Young; and Brother, Andrew (Elizabeth) Young.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Martin H. Young Sr. and Willie Chaffin-Young, and grandchild, Tyson Young.

Leta Kathleen Barnwell

Leta Kathleen Barnwell, 80, was born on May 10, 1939 to Johnny and Hazel Hamby Carter in Harriman, TN. She passed away on February 26, 2020. Leta was a cabinet craftsman who took pride in assembling each piece she worked on. She also enjoyed sitting down and reading a good book.

She is survived by her children, Regina Kay Reagan (Tim), Gilbert Leon Barnwell, and Roger Dale Barnwell (Lela Mae); April Michelle Barker (Bobby), Rocky Davenport, Addison and Payton Reagan, Billy Joseph Barnwell (Corey), Cody Barnwell, and Michael and Anthony Walker; and great grandchildren, Cole, Emma, Wyatt, Johnny Luke, and Willow Ann.

She is preceded in death by her, parents; husband, Gilbert Barnwell; son, Billy Barnwell; grandson, Dustin Barnwell; and siblings, Avis Norton and Eunetta Crisp.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 12 to 2 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Leta will also be held on Saturday following visitation with Ralph Reagan officiating. She will be laid to rest in Haley’s Grove Cemetery.

Mary Kate Scoggin

Mary Kate Scoggin, age 70, went to meet her Heavenly Father on February 23, 2020 at her home in Crossville, TN. Katie was born on Church St. in Sparta, TN on December 18,1949 to Charles Milford and Mamie Alice Scoggin. Katie enjoyed making cakes, crocheting, sewing, and being with family and church friends.

Katie was survived in death by her loving and devoted sister Rubye Charline Layne, best friend of 14 years, Missy, daughter Christy Alice (Rick) Rose, son, Jeffery Brian Young, daughter Tracy Charline (Rob) Thompson, two Aunts, Josie Masters and Evelyn Wright, seven grandchildren, Randy (Whittney) Goines, Jonathan (Britnee) Johnson, Isaiah Phifer, Brian (Kaitlyn) Gay, Rachel Farris, Kimberly Young, Jeffrey (Brittney) Young. Katie also had 9 great grandchildren Carli, Zoey, Charlie, Kennedy, Hunter, Briton, Cambrie, Remy Lee,Jeremy. Two nieces Vicky Matthews and Rebecca (Allen) Layne. Also many more wonderful family members and friends.

Katie is preceded in death by her grandparents Jonah Robert and Lottie Kate Seals, John Swindell and Mary Lou Scoggin, Parents Charles Milford and Mamie Alice Scoggin, Son, Randall Dale Scoggin, brother-in-law, JohnnyLayne,Nephew, Richard Layne, three grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Vick, and two baby Goines angels.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Bon de Croft Baptist Church in Sparta, TN on February 27, 2020. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 with a service at 6:00 and refreshments to follow. Jason Lewis and Sam Davis will officiate.

Eula Irene Tollett

Eula Irene Tollett, age 88, was born February 14, 1931 to James Wilker and Kanza Garrett Sullivan in Crossville, TN and passed away in her home on February 13, 2020 in Crossville, TN.  She worked for a hospital as a housekeeper. She loved to bake and enjoyed taking food to the sick and reading her Bible.

She is survived by her husband- Herbert Tollett; Son- Stephen Bollinger (Anna); daughter- Desiree Warner (Ikey); grandchildren- Easton, Ciara, and Axel; niece- Rebecca Bowles (Michael); nephew-Danny Tollett; brother- Wilker Sullivan Jr.; and sisters- Gineva Gribbins and Freda Tollett.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Vickie Jean Sullivan and grandson- Stevie Bollinger.

A graveside service was held on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 1:00 pm in Big Lick Cemetery.

Jean Ellan Webster

Jean Ellan Webster, age 53, was born on February 12, 1966 in Pottsville, PA and passed away February 10, 2020 in Crossville, TN. She was a Nursing Assistant and a devoted wife and caregiver for her late husband- Richard L Webster. Jean graduated from the Coatesville Area School District in Coatesville, PA. She enjoyed watching her soaps, playing with her cats, and collecting dolphin figurines. Jean’s lifelong dream was to swim with the dolphins, which she did in her 40th birthday year with a trip to Florida.

She is survived by her parents- Vincent and Charlene Culley Richardson of Fairfield Glade, TN, formerly of Coatesville, PA; sister- Meagan Sheaffer (Rich) and nephews-Kyle and Steven Sheaffer, all of Everett, PA.

There will be a memorial service on February 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.

John Ulice Stafford

John Ulice Stafford, 65, passed away on February 11, 2020 at Cumberland Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on February 11, 1955 in Knoxville, TN to James Albert and Betty Ruth (Bice) Stafford. He worked in the construction profession with Eatherly Construction, Green Brother’s Construction, and for Crab Orchard Utility District.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Teresa (Turner) Stafford; daughter Ashley Blankenship (Phillip), sons, Johnny, Tony (Sabrina), and Caleb (Kristin) Stafford; grandchildren or his little “knotheads”, Kase Dixon, Brayden Blankenship, Dawson, Katelin, and Elijah Stafford, and Brailey Walden; special engrafted daughter and Ashley’s sister of the heart, Jennifer Stanford-Durham (Colton); brother, Larry Stafford (Leslie); sisters, Nancy Kilby and Mary Kimbrel; sisters-in-law, Virginia Stafford, Linda Stafford, and Barbara Daffinee (Wade); brothers-in-law, Ronald Turner (Delores), Tracy Turner, and Travis Turner; nieces and nephews, Nathaniel Daffinee (Christina), Gary Turner (Tammy), Keith Cross (Cora), Storme Cross Insco, Jason Richards (Tish), Derrik Turner, Tonia Turner, Shane Turner, Justin Turner (Ashley), Brittany O’Neal (Derek), Chris Stafford (Jodie), Josh Stafford (Lisa), Phillip Stafford, Sandra Eldridge (Mike), Tammie Triplett, Tina Bramblett, Anthony Stafford and Krystal Headrick; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert and Betty Ruth (Bice) Stafford; grandparents, Claude and Gladys Bice, and Tilda Moles; brothers, Wilburn Earl Stafford, Dewey Stafford, and Jerry Stafford; mother and father-in-law, Carson Lloyd and Mary Ellen Norris Turner; sisters-in-law, Catha (Turner) Cross and BJ (Turner) Masters; nephew, Michael Stafford; and niece, Tabitha Turner.

He was loved by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 5 – 8:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. with Bro. Tim Chesson, pastor of Faith Worship Center, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Turner Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Wade Daffinee, Phillip Blankenship, Jason Richards, Phillip Stafford, Byrd Kerley, and Brian Swafford.

Rilda Mae Wyatt

Rilda Mae Wyatt, age 74, was born on March 15, 1945 to William Farmer and Mary Camoline Ward Russell in Crossvillle, TN and passed away on February 2, 2020 in Cookeville, TN. She worked for Carter Inc. and was a member of Creston Independent Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons Walter Lee Wyatt Sr. (Lisa) and Warren Lee Wyatt; grandchildren- Walter Lee Jr., Elisabeth Marie Kilgore, Christian Booth, and Hannah Lindsey; four great grandchildren; and sisters- Betty Brown and Roberta Hall. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband- Robert Lee Wyatt Sr., son- Robert Lee Wyatt Jr., sisters- Pauline Adams, Lois Parsons, and Retha McDaniel; and brothers- Clyde Russell and Leonard Russell.

There will be a memorial service at Creston Independent Baptist Church on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 11:00 AM with burial in Creston Cemetery at a later date.
