Joseph Henry Gumbel

Joseph Henry Gumbel, 93, of Fairfield Glade, was born on March 7, 1928, to Clarence and Nellie in Manito, IL, and passed away at his residence on May 4, 2021. A Navy veteran and college athlete, Joe was an avid golfer and outdoorsman, but he’ll probably best be so remembered for his love of Kentucky basketball.  A booming personality and laugh to match, Joe was kind-hearted, a gifted storyteller, and always quick with a joke.  He leaves a legacy of love behind.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kathryn.

He is survived by sons, Bruce Gumbel (Tina) and Mark Gumbel (Trudy); daughter, Jo (Gumbel) McGlothin (Tim); and grandchildren Penny Gumbel, Elisa Gumbel, K.C. Mayer (Tim), Matt Gumbel, Liz Duvall (Adam),  Caitlin Sullivan (Patrick) and Sam McGlothin (Holly) and 6 great grandchildren.

Roger Dale Barnwell

Roger Dale Barnwell, age 53, was born July 14, 1967 to Gilbert Lewis and Leta Kathleen Carter in Nashville, TN and went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2021 in Crossville, TN. He was a field service technician in heavy equipment. He loved to fish and go hunting.

He is survived by his sister, Regina Reagan (Tim) and brother, Gilbert Leon Barnwell (Jennifer); also his life partner, Lela Mae Walker and sons, Anthony and Michael Walker.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Billy Vaughn Barnwell.

The family will have a private service at a later date.

Connie Lynn Dyer

Connie Lynn Dyer, age 74, was born on December 19, 1946 to Mitchell Earl and Bertha Blevins Pennington in Lakewood, OH. She passed away on May 6, 2021.

She is survived by her children, Michelle McKamey (Terry), Kim Dyer, and Rob Dyer (Stephanie); grandchildren, Skyler Phillips, Summer Dyer, Bethany Dyer, Lakyn Kearley, Samantha Thomas, Daniel Garrison, Aleisa Schmitt, Brittany Yawn, Justin McKamey, and Greg McKamey; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Curtis and Doc Pennington; and sisters, Betty Durisek and Edna Freeman.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Douglas Dyer; granddaughter, Kayla Varney; brothers, Jay, Jerry, and Nolan Pennington; and sister, Crinn Phillips.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 12 to 2 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Connie will also be held on Tuesday following visitation with Adam Hargis officiating. She will be laid to rest in Burgess Cemetery.

Edward Eugene Burgess “Gene”

Edward Eugene Burgess “Gene”, age 87, was born on June 17, 1933 to Dalton and Jewel Vinson Burgess in Jackson County, TN. He passed away on May 4, 2021. He began preaching in October of 1956. He was an evangelist in California, Michigan, and Tennessee for six and a half years. After pastoring in Sparta, he moved back to Crossville and built a new church in 1978 and spend the remainder of his years pastoring there. He spent a total of 50 years in Crossville. Gene was an amazing singer and musician. He will be remembered for his humor, love and kindness.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Burgess; daughters, Tabitha (Aaron) deVogel and Holly McGill; sister, Diane (Junior) Draper; grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Jesse, and Jewel; and nephew, Kevin (Shari) Burgess.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alvin Burgess.

Family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 11 to 3 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Gene will also be held on Monday following visitation with Jerry Barnwell and Drew Eastes officiating. He will be laid to rest in Crossville City Cemetery.

Marvin Roy Seagraves

Marvin Roy Seagraves, age 75, was born on December 27, 1945 to Andrew and Lorene Abston Seagraves in Cumberland Co., TN. He passed away on May 3, 2021. Marvin lived his life as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and laughing with those he loved dearly. Marvin was a preacher’s kid, and he stood strong on God’s principles. He preached from the King James Bible that Hell is Hot, Heaven is Real, and Jesus is the only way of salvation. Marvin died having taught his family and others more about faith by his walk with the Lord than he ever spoke. Marvin is a veteran of the United States Army, and he served our country during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Seagraves; daughters: Patricia (Keith) Umberger, Janice (Dwajuan) Howse, and Crystal Seagraves; grandchildren, Adora Roysden, Mackenzie Howse, and Katelyn Umberger; great grandchild, Gunner Castelow; and siblings, Rosetta Findley, Mollie Seagraves, and Marie Burden.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Frank and Alfred Seagraves.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 9:00 to 12:00 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Marvin will also be held on Saturday following visitation with Aric Seiber, James Ford, and T.L. Page officiating. He will be laid to rest in New Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Betty Dean Cooper

Betty Dean Cooper, age 86, was born on September 13, 1934 to Richard Samuel and Anna Lou B. Reagan Hamby in Crossville, TN. She passed away on April 21, 2021 in West Sacramento, CA.

She is survived by her children, Jerry Cooper, Dale Cooper (Linda), David Cooper (Ginger), and Vicky Knight; grandchildren, Danny, Christ, Sandy, Sherri, Joshua, Kim, and Laura; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and siblings: Gordon, Geneva, Brenda, Terry, and Doris.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lennis Cooper; and siblings, Noah (Dick), JB, Charlene, Juanita, and Wanda Sue.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021at 12:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She will be laid to rest in Slate Springs Cemetery.

Tommy Ray Meadows

Tommy Ray Meadows, age 45, was born on August 9, 1975 to Ernest Meadows and Oma Norris Meadows in Oberlin, Ohio. He passed away on April 20, 2021in Crossville, TN. Tommy loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working and helping others.

He is survived by his mother, Oma Meadows; sisters, Bonnie Ford and Carol Meadows; wife, Keana Meadows; daughter, Taylor Deney; stepchildren, MJ Haney and Wendy Haney; grandchildren, Natalie and Remington; and three step grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 1 to 2 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services for Tommy will also be held on Sunday following visitation with Ralph Reagan officiating. He will be laid to rest in Haleys Grove Cemetery.
