Dean “MadDog” Hutchens

Dean “MadDog”  Hutchens passed away 12/06/2024 at the age of 62, in his hometown of Crab Orchard, Tennessee. His battle with cancer showed his courage and humor in facing life challenges. Despite the pain, Dean stayed strong until the end keeping a smile on his face and his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years (Darlene – his ultimate favorite person); four daughters (Barbara “Anny” – his mini and the author of this beautifully written obituary, Brenda , Misty – the favorite, and Tabitha); one son (Derek “Shane”); seven grandchildren (Alex, David, Lily Rose, Katherine, Krista, Sarah, Taylor; and two fur children (Smokey and Molly – I promised daddy the dogs would get recognition).

Deans beloved dog Smokey and granddog Ruger are making the journey with him. “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever!’” Revelation 5:13

Dean will be fondly remembered as a generous, and kindhearted person who loved to joke around and have a good time with his family and friends. He was mostly easy going unless you messed with a loved one (or put him in restraints while he was sleeping, and you can verify that with some of the staff at Parkwest Hospital). He was very fond of his guns, Chevy trucks, hunting, camping at Jackson Island, German Shepherds, Yoohoo’s, orange juice, Mt. Dew and momma’s cooking.

“No funeral, have a BBQ” daddy said, before noting that he preferred to be cremated. So, we will have a private celebration of life to honor his memory. He wanted us to talk about the fun stuff and not shed a single tear. Before passing he was excited to get to heaven and see his brother (and best friend), Danny again “so don’t be sad”, he said.

This obituary might seem uncouth to most, but to those that knew my daddy knows that he had to do everything the hard way making this a very fitting obituary for my old man.

Greg Bowman

Beloved Husband, Father, Pawpaw, and Friend

Greg Bowman, age 70, of Crossville, TN, passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2024. He was a loving husband, devoted dad, proud pawpaw, and a friend to many.

Born on August 7, 1954, in Crossville, TN, Greg was a graduate of Cumberland County High School (Class of 1972). He went on to earn a business degree from the University of Tennessee, a foundation that would serve him well throughout his life. In 1982, Greg combined his business acumen and construction experience to start Bowman Construction. Over the next 40 years, he grew the company into a successful and respected business.

Greg married the love of his life, Marcia, and together they shared nearly 38 years of joy and companionship. As true best friends, they found happiness in the simplest moments, filling their life with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Greg was a proud father to three children—Travis, Bo, and Kari—and a devoted grandfather to four grandchildren, Kyle, Brynlee, Bree, and Eleanor Watson. He instilled in his children the values of honesty, hard work, and integrity, always encouraging them to take the high road. Greg was always there to listen, offer advice, and be a steady presence, ready to drop everything when his family needed him. Above all, he was simply the best dad.

Greg was a man of quiet generosity and humility. He loved spending time at home with his family, finding joy in life’s small pleasures. Whether cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers with a plate of Rotel dip and sausage balls, cruising the lake with Marcia on warm summer days, or riding his grandkids around on the side-by-side, Greg cherished time spent with loved ones. He found peace working around the house, whether tinkering with the skid steer or sitting on the porch with a glass of unsweet tea, watching the hummingbirds. His easygoing nature and kind spirit touched everyone he met.
