Donald Fossey Sr, age 76, was born on October 4, 1945 to JT and Ruby Rackley Fossey in Ravenden Springs, Arkansas. He passed away on February 5, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Fossey.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Sue Music, age 79, was born on April 7, 1942 to Floyd and Lela Pugh in Crab Orchard, TN. She passed away in her home on February 3, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lela Barnwell Pugh.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 12p-2p at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2p. She will be buried at Music Cemetery immediately following the service.
William Leslie Burgess Jr., age 93, of Crossville, Tennessee died on Saturday, January 29, 2022, formerly of Bedford, Pennsylvania.
He was born on July, 16, 1928 in DeLeon, Texas, the son of the late William Leslie Burgess Sr. and Ora Grace (Jenkins) Burgess.
On January 3, 1987 he married the former Carol Jean (Furnari) Flanigan in Fairfax County, Virginia. She survives him.
He is also survived by a daughter, Tammy Jane Burgess of Manassas, Virginia, a son, John Carter Burgess the husband of the former Kathleen Ann Wyrick, a granddaughter, Kaila Noelle Burgess, and a stepdaughter, Eve Marie Flanigan of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Mr. Burgess was a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church of Crossville, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 through 1969, retiring in the rank of Commander. He flew 103 combat missions during the Korean War and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and six combat Air medals. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland and served four tours in Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E). He also graduated from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he worked for the Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, New York and Hercules Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia, retiring in 1991.
Friends will be received on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 2:00-3:00pm at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church with a service immediately following at 3:00pm.
Michael John Leath was born on February 25, 1955 to the late Kenneth Dean and Carolyn Leath. He passed away on January 26, 2022 at Cumberland Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Leath; son Wesley Leath (Amber); Grandchildren Aiden Fish-Leath, Wyatt Leath, and Lillian Grace Leath; Special Aunt Grace Tyree; Foster Mom Lois Long; Brothers: Bill Leath (Robin), Bob Leath (Edna), Mark Long (Cheryl); Sisters Kathy Ellis (Danny), Angela Worlety, Pam Lane (Jeff), Sandra Smith (Jason); Brother in Law Larry Shoopman; Sister in Law Katherine Shannon (Roger); and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Kenneth Dean & Carolyn Leath; Granddaughter, Elizabeth Paige Leath; Father and Mother-in-law, Ralph & Mabel Shoopman; and Foster Dad Charles Long.
Memorial Services will be held at Deer Run Chapel on February 5th @ 1p.m central time by Rev. Owen Ivey.
Bonnie Sue Brewer, age 75, was born to Willard and Ruby Blaylock Lawson in Crossville, TN on November 27, 1946 and passed away in her home on January 28, 2022. She was a homemaker that truly loved her job and family. She is survived by her children- Keith Brewer (Laura), Daryl Brewer, and Loretta Clark (David); grandchildren- Misty Dixon, Shelbi Brewer, and Beth Ann Brewer; great grandchildren- Riley Young, Katelyn Dixon, and Alex Dixon; and siblings- Wanda Fields, Ricky Lawson, and Hubert Lawson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Willis “George” Brewer, and numerous brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 5 to 7 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with funeral service on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 1:00 with Adam Hargis officiating. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery.
Bettye Tollett Hill, age 95, of Crossville TN passed away January 22, 2022, at Lifecare Center of Crossville.
Bettye was the oldest of 8 children of Jane and George Tollett. She is survived by sons Dr. James O (Trish) Hill of Birmingham, AL; Benny (Libby) Hill, Ronny (Rachel) Hill, and Steve (Jamie) Hill all of Crossville. Grandchildren Alex and Michael (Madeline) Hill, Eli (Karla) Hill, Lindsay, Nicholas and Eric Hill, and Parker and Peyten Hill, Great Grandchildren Oaklee Hill and Sawyer Hale. Survivors also include brothers and sisters in law Charles (Jane) Tollett of Crossville and Dan (Paula) Tollett of Hendersonville, TN, Bobbie Tollett and Louise Tollett both of Crossville plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Bettye was well known for her love of children and started Jack and Jill preschool which spanned over 40 years serving many generations of families in the Crossville area.
Burial will be in the Tollett Cemetery in the Sequatchie Valley with a Celebration of Life held at a later date.
Joan Efting Kennedy passed away peacefully at the age of 88 with family at her side on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in Fairfield Glade, TN. Joan was born on May 9, 1933, in Chicago, IL to Edward and Vera Efting. She was a “surprise” to her parents, as they did not know they were having twins! Joan and her twin brother, John, enjoyed their childhood together in Chicago.
Joan attended Hanover College where she met the love of her life, Paul R. Kennedy Jr. They were married on August 15, 1953, in Chicago, IL, and enjoyed over 68 years together before Paul’s death on December 17, 2021. Together they raised four children: Paul, Bruce, Stephen, and Patricia. Her life with Paul took her around the country, and she made many dear friends from coast to coast along the way.
Joan served as the “Kennedy Family Manager.” Raising four children was more than a full-time job since Paul’s work with the Goodyear Tire Company often took him away from home. In 1972, Joan entered the “paying workforce.” She worked for Montgomery Ward while living in Michigan, and then as a dental receptionist when they moved back to St Mary’s, OH. Joan and Paul retired and moved to Fairfield Glade, TN in 1993.
Joan’s family and friends were her treasure. She was the “heart” of the Kennedy home and family. Joan was committed to a life of service, both at home and in her community. She served as a volunteer at the Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN for over 20 years. Her faith was something she lived, and she was always active in her church community. Since retirement, she was deeply committed to the Fairfield Glade Community Church and its ministries including the Mission Committee, Women’s Fellowship, and Prayer Shawl Ministry. With her husband, Paul, she regularly visited the homebound and those in care centers unable to attend services, bringing DVDs of the worship service to them. Joan also loved to play bridge and was a crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Joan is survived by her beloved children, Paul (Karen) Kennedy III, Bruce (Laura) Kennedy, Stephen (Joanne) Kennedy, and Patricia Kennedy (Melissa Miller); and her dear grandchildren Jeffrey (Jessica) Kennedy, Kimberly Kennedy, Kevin (Sheetal) Kennedy, and Patrick (Ami) Kennedy. She was overjoyed to be a great grandmother to Ethan, Taran, Carter, and Christopher Kennedy, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her fifth great-grandson due in late January 2022. Joan is also survived by her twin brother, John Efting, whose wife, Grace is deceased, and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Smythe, whose husband, Richard is deceased. Joan was preceded in death by her brother-in-law David (Connie) Kennedy.

Timothy Derrin Elmore, 56 of Crossville TN, was born October 20th, 1964 & passed away in his home on January 21st, 2022.
Tim will be greatly missed by his Daughter Brandi Brink, Son in law Jake Brink, grandson Bo Brink and granddaughter Ava Brink, Brother Scott Elmore, Sister-in law Tina Elmore, nephews Coty Elmore, Zack Elmore and Jacob Nealey, great nieces Dylan Caruthers and Nevaeh Elmore and great nephew Michael Young.
Tim was reunited in heaven with both of his parents, Bob and Lucy Elmore!
Tim was a well loved person in our community! Tim never met a stranger! He loved telling stories and cracking jokes. It was impossible to be in his company without having a good laugh! He had a heart of gold and would give anyone the shirt off his back, even though he had very little to offer. He was all around one of the friendliest guys you would ever meet! Tim’s laugh was probably his best character trait! His laugh would light up an entire room!
Tim loved the simple things in life. He loved spending time in the great outdoors! He did not believe in the internet or a smart phone. He did not get caught up in todays latest or newest things. He believed in doing everything the “old fashion” way. He simply just wanted to spend time with the ones he loved!
Tim spent a lot of his years camping, hunting, fishing or going on backpacking trips. He also loved riding ATV’s! He used to load up the 4-wheeler & cooler full of snacks, so that he and his daughter could enjoy the whole day in the woods. Those were some of the best memories they made together. When Tim became a grandpa, his world revolved around his grandkids. He spent most of his time with them. Taking them fishing and weekend camping trips. Most of his time was spent just being with them. He was always there for his daughter and son in law. They could always count on him to be there for any family event. He was always the light of the party!
We could all learn something from Tim Elmore! It’s all about the simple things in life. Learning to be still in a crazy busy world. Cherish the time you have with family and just be together! He will be deeply missed by all his loved ones, until we meet you again in heaven! We love you so much!
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00pm-2:00pm with the service at 2:00pm. He will be buried at Crossville City Cemetery immediately following the service.
Frank Parton was born on May 27, 1931, in Sevier County. He went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2022, at 4:13 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Bernice Parton; parents, Jimmy and Leota Parton; and brothers, Crawford Parton, Homer Parton, Billy Parton, Ray Parton, Ben Parton and Blaine Parton.
He is survived by his daughters, Janice (Peter) Yore and Karen (Tori) Eubanks, both of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Katie Yore, Peter (Casey) Yore, Amy Yore, Jennifer (Nick) Aguilar, Nicole (Josh) Fennell and Jamie Eubanks (Seth Wirtz); great-grandchildren, Roan Yore, Grayson Yore, Piper Yore, Paisley Yore, Preslee Yore, and Luna Aguilar.
Frank was a man of integrity, humble, honest, loving, and kind to all who knew him. He worked as an auto body repair specialist in the Chicago area for 40+ years. He would not retire from his work at age 90. He specialized in restoring antique automobiles that no one else would touch — to perfection to full paint.
He was a God-fearing man, loving, faithful husband — loved witnessing to all those who came into his shop, never wanting to miss sharing Jesus with all he came into contact with. He was always anxious to help all who needed a hand.
He loved his children and grandchildren — was a perfect role model for them to follow. His seed will rise up and call him blessed. He will be eternally missed by all those who love him.
Visitation will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, January 21, 2021 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm with the service to follow at 3:00pm. He will be buried at South Liberty Community Cemetery in Athens, TN at a later date.
Bud Cumby, age 76, was born on August 4, 1945 to Casto and Ruby Cumby in Crossville, TN. He passed away on January 11, 2022, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.
He enjoyed watching the stock market, watching the news, hunting, fishing and watching the VOLS play football.
Bud is survived by his wife, Judy Cumby; his children, Jeff (Dannielle) Cumby, Cheryl Murphy, Amanda (Scott) Moore and Keshia Cumby; brother, Joe (Stella) Cumby; sisters, Shirley Davenport, Betty (James) Selby, Mary Garrett, Charlotte (Jack) Rollins; grandchildren, Daniel (Jasmine) Murphy, Emily (Seth) York, Teresa (Brandon) Delawter, Kelsea Cumby, Kameron Cumby, Hunter Cumby, Kaden Cumby, Eli Sparkman, Axel Selby, Liam Moore, Anna Moore, Luke Moore, Josiah Moore; and great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Murphy, Dayton Murphy, Aerolynn York, Charlie York and Everly Delawter. He was expecting a new great-grandson in May of this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Casto and Ruby Lee Cumby; sister, Bonnie King; half-brother, James Cumby; half-sisters, Pauline Young and Francis Howard.
Funeral services will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm with the service to follow at 1pm, officiated by John Johnson. Bobby will be buried at Browns Mill Cemetery in Cookeville, TN immediately following the service.
