Betty Ann Whitaker

Betty Whitaker, age 83, was born on June 2, 1939 to Tim E. and Lillie Mae Hammons in Pleasant Hill, TN. She passed away on August 7, 2022 in Monterey, TN.

Betty is survived by her children Sheila Todd, Mickey Whitaker, and Gary (Kimberly) Whitaker; grandchildren Charlie Todd, Travis Whitaker, David Whitaker, and Dylan Whitaker; 5 great grandchildren; siblings David (Pamela) Hammons and Glenna (Ron) Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Tim E. and Lillie Mae (Thompson) Hammons; siblings Shirley Jeane Cobb, Edward Carl Hammons, Thomas Boyd Hammons, Nila M. Meadows, and Brenda Lee Smith; son Terrance Craig Whitaker; and daughter-in-law Lisa Gayle Whitaker.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 12:00pm with the service immediately following at 12:00pm.

Mary Helen Dixon

Mary Dixon, age 75, was born on October 18, 1946 to Richard and Viola McGhee in Roane County TN. She passed away on August 5, 2022 in Cumberland County TN.

Mary is survived by her husband Leo Dixon; son Roger Leo (Dorella) Dixon; grandchildren Tessa (Hunter) Kirkland and Jordan Dixon; and siblings Betty Temple and Harold McGhee.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Viola (Marlow) McGhee and siblings Ruby Stewart, Robert, Jimmy, Roy, Donnie, and Juanita McGhee.

Services will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 6-8pm. The Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 1pm. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery immediately following the service.

Mary Katherine Anderson

Mary Katherine Anderson, age 64, was born on August 6, 1957 to Paul and Billie Wolfe in Pleasant Hill, TN. She passed away on August 4, 2022 in Pleasant Hill, TN.

She is survived by her sister Janet Norris and her niece Ira Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Franklin Wolfe and Billie Ray (Lewis) Wolfe.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022. Visitation will be at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home from 11am-12pm. A Graveside Service at New Pleasant Hill Cemetery will immediately follow the visitation. Don Haston will be officiating.

Marie Griffin

Marie Griffin, age 81, was born on December 9, 1940 in New York, NY and passed away on July 10, 2022 in Crossville, TN.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John T. Griffin.

Services will be held at Faith Assembly of God in Crossville, TN. There will be a dinner with family and friends on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 4-6pm. The Remembrance service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 12pm. Pastor Steven Pickard will be officiating.

Marion “Charlie” Richard Brown, Jr.

Marion “Charlie” Brown, age 79, was born on March 26, 1943 to Marion and Meddy Brown in Adams, TN. He passed away on July 31, 2022 in Cookeville, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Theresia (Watson) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Richard and Meddy Savannah (Bryant) Brown.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Mission. Visitation will be from 12p-1p with the service to follow at 1p.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Mission.

Malissa Mae Davenport

Malissa Davenport, age 55, was born on November 17, 1966 to Thurman and Shelby (Cline) Hurley in Stopover, KY. She passed away on July 25, 2022 in Murfreesboro, TN.

Malissa is survived by her mother Shelby Cline; children Shelby Hurley and Bradley Davenport; siblings Steven (Rebecca) Hurley and Jessica (Ricky) Pinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Thurman Hurley.

Services for Malissa will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 5-8pm. The Funeral service will be on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 2pm. She will be buried in Crossville City Cemetery immediately following the service.

Mary Jane Walker

Mary Jane Walker, age 60, was born on December 19, 1961 to Robert and Carol in Lowell, Massachusetts. She passed away on July 12, 2022 in Dayton, OH.

Mary Jane enjoyed arts and crafts, woodworking, and gardening.

She is survived by her husband Larry Pugh; children Crystal (Joe) Barnett, Jennifer Walker, and Sheri Walker; grandchildren Elisha, Kailah, Joe, Natalya, Angelina, Ashley, and Kayden; great grandchild Nolan; sisters Joanne, Bonnie, Kathy, and Caroline; and brothers Paul, Bobby, Mike, and Richie.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 in Pugh Cemetery at 12:30pm.

Virginia Maxcene Smith

Virginia Smith, age 93, was born on September 5, 1928 to Virgil and Cora Brewer in Pikeville, TN. She passed away on July 21, 2022 in Crossville, TN.

Virginia loved the Lord and her family and was a member of Vandever Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son Dexter (Carol) Smith; daughter Debbie (Bob) Wilson; grandchildren Shannon (Vickie) Smith, Shelly Gibson, Amy (Rodney) Reed, Stephanie Wilson, Bratcher (Shelly) Wilson, and Michael (Rachel) Wilson; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Imogene Smith; nieces Connie Lucius and Rhonda Wyatt; and nephew Raymond Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Cora (Edmonds) Smith; husband Clyde Smith; grandson Chip Simmons; sister Millie Coleman; and nephew Tommy Brown.

Services will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Vandever Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4-6pm with the service to follow at 6pm. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery immediately following the service.

Robert “Uncle Bob” WEHMUELLER

Robert “Uncle Bob” WEHMUELLER passed away in Chattanooga, TN on June 29, 2022. Born in St. Louis on April 21, 1929, He was preceded in death by parents, August and Eleonore (Beckman) and brothers Wilbert, Vernon, Melvin, and Kenneth. He is survived by many nieces and nephews from coast to coast. He lived most of his life in St. Louis until moving to Tennessee in 1997 to be near his niece Sue Cox. He attended Zion Lutheran Grade School, Central High School (class of 1947) and Washington University (1951). He served two years in the Army, mostly in Japan and Korea. A celebration of life will be held on July 23rd at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Crossville, TN at 11:00 am with internment in their Columbarium. Crossville Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Louise Moretz Smith

Wanda Louise Moretz Smith, age 79, was born on February 23, 1943, in Lynch, Kentucky, to Nobel Pearl Wilson and Edward McConnelly Moretz. She passed away on July 13, 2022, in Crossville, Tennessee.

A hairdresser for more than 60 years, Wanda owned Wanda’s Beauty Shop and served many clients. Starting on a whim in 1965, she developed a passion and talent for bowling. She served as President of the Crossville Women’s Bowling Association for over 20 years and was inducted into the Tennessee Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2005.

She is survived by her son, Edward Smith; daughter-in-law, Kathy Dooley-Smith; and granddaughters, Kassie Dooley-Smith and Sydney Dooley-Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith; parents, Edward and Nobel Moretz; sister, Jean Smith; and brother, Rondal Moretz.

The family will receive friends at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, July22, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. with a service to immediately follow.

The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Leukemia Research Foundation in Wanda’s memory.
