Burlene Mahaney

Burlene Mahaney was born on February 22, 1940 to the late Burl and Ella Jernigan, and passed away February 14, 2017 in Putnam Co. Burlene was a home maker and loved to do yard work, flower gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles, and having yard sales.

She is survived by daughters- Candace Barnwell (Michael) and Melanie Mehaney. Grandchildren- Celsey Holt, Wesley Barnwell, Dylan Barnwell, and Kiera Phillips. Sister- Eula Ray McCloud.

She is preceded in death by her parents- Burl and Ella Jernigan, Husband- Roger Mehaney, Brother- Paul D. Jernigan, and Sister- Fannie May Hicks.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with a service to follow. Burial will be held at Mayland Cemetery.

Tina Priddy

Tina Louise (Korte) Priddy, 51, passed away on Feb. 14, 2017, at Cumberland County Medical Center due to ongoing heart complications. Tina was born on Jan. 10, 1966, in New Albany, IN, to James and Charlene Korte.
In 2000, Tina became certified as a CNA, where she spent many years caring for the elderly.
Tina is survived by her loving companion, Steve Henry; two children, Ryan Rector and Cassandra Priddy; two siblings, sister Theresa and brother-in-law Michael Davis and brother Steven and sister-in-law Danette Korte; and four grandchildren, Andrew Brown, Morgan Rector, James McGhee and Mallory Priddy.
She was preceded in death by both parents, James and Charlene Korte; and both grandparents, John and Louise Mallory.

Neavon Hatfield

Neavon A. Hatfield age 87, was born December 24, 1929 to the late Alex and Maggie Hatfield in Sequatchie, TN and passed away February 13, 2017. At the age of six-teen Neavon started working on the Martha McCoy Farm. Working on the farm was what Neavon enjoyed the most. He loved to outdoors and anything that involved working/playing in it!

He is survived by Friends Raymond and Faye Smith.

Neavon is preceded in death by his Mother- Maggie Brown Hatfield and Father- Alex Hatfield, Wife- Lorraine Hatfield, and a very special friend- Vinnie Smith Mathely.

Saturday February 18, 2017 visitation will be held from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with a service to follow. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM Est. at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Herbert Lon Pyles

Herbert Lon Pyles, age 72, was born on April 13, 1944 to Woodrow and Verdie Pyles and passed away on February 10, 2017 surrounded by his family in his home in Grandview, TN. He was self-employed in the rock and log business doing everything from excavation to delivery. He enjoyed fishing and listening to bluegrass music, but his family was his passion. He loved his grandchildren and they fondly remember the many hay rides he took them on.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 52 years- Evadine Pyles; son- John Stacey Pyles; daughters- Sharon Reed, Karen Hayes (Jerry), and Melissa McClung (Mark); grandchildren- Drew Hayton Matt Young, Ashley Reed, Heather Reed, Jesse Pyle, Lacey Allen, Adam Hayes, Brian McClung (Heather). and Alyssa McClung; great grandchildren- Billy Jack Hayton, Julianna Hayton, Hope Northcutt, Payton Reed, Amy Reed, Sophia Hayes, Ian Hayes and Henley Caroline McClung; brothers- Bobby and Sammy Pyles; and his dog- Shorty.

He is preceded in death by his parents- Woodrow Pyles and Verdie Ellen Harvey Pyles, and brothers- James, Melvin, Roger, Tommy, and Danny Pyles.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2012, from 5 to 8 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and the funeral will be held on Monday at 1:00. The burial will follow in the Johnson Stand Cemetery.

J. Paul Caldwell

J. Paul Caldwell, born Joseph Paul Caldwell, loving husband, father and grandfather, died February 6, 2017. He was 85 years old having been born December 31, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio. He was a president of Fairfield Glade, TN, but previously lived on Norwalk, Ohio, and Toledo, Ohio.

He graduated from Wate High School in Toledo in 1949. His early working years were spent at the Lof Glass Factory in East Toledo; many of those years working nights as he attended college during the daytime. He graduated Magna Cum Laude at the University of Toledo and was a member and officer in five honor societies plus was nominated for a Fulbright Scholarship. He declined, choosing to marry instead. He continued on at U of T earning Masters and EDD SP Degrees in Psychology and Counseling.

Paul was employed by the Erie County Schools and the Willard City Schools in Ohio as school psychologist and director of pupil personnel for many years; additionally serving as tennis coach for both the boys and girls tennis teams. He was very active in the early years of special education helping to establish special classes and transportation for disabled students. He was also involved at the state level in developing standards for specific learning disabled students.

Paul was also a state licensed psychologist and was involved with the Linn Center Mental Health Clinic. He supervised interning psychologist, as well as, served as an officer, including president of the board. Paul volunteered with the reach of our youth organization, The Shalom UCC Free Medical Clinic, and several other organizations while in Ohio. He coached boys and girls softball when his sons were young. He also continued coaching tennis after retiring, voluntarily, with the Norwalk Tennis team for several years. Helping others was extremely important to him. If anyone needed anything, he was among the first to volunteer.

In earlier activities in Toledo and Norwalk, Paul was very involved with the Toledo Jaycees, the Young Dems, taught Judo at the YMCA and The University of Toledo plus church activities. After retiring to Tennessee, Paul was involved with the Fairfield Glade Community Church, including men’s fellowship and their activities plus assisting with school eye screening with the Lions’ Club. Paul was very involved in sports all his life. Tennis, as previously mentioned, was a major sport in his life. But he also played golf, was a black belt in Judo, an avid horseman, and dedicated skier, in addition the basketball, softball, bowling, and ping pong/ table tennis.

Paul was perceded in death by his parents, Paul E. and E. Julia (Adkins) Caldwell, and a brother, W. Dewey Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Carolyn M Caldwell; two sons (& wives), David(Justine Lutzel) Caldwell and Douglas (Amanda Fulmer) Caldwell among three grandchildren, Escher, Luna and Jackson Caldwell; a brother, T. James (Carol) Caldwell; sister-in-law, Janet Caldwell (Who shared a birthday with him); and several nieces and nephews. A close family, Paul will be tremendously missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his honor to Hospice of Cumberland County, Fairfield Glade Community Church and/or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Nancy Ann Oehlecker

Nancy Ann Oehlecker, age 85, was born on October 20, 1931 in Kalkaska, MI to Blanche Bradley and passed away in Crossville, TN on February 4, 2017. She was a wife and mother who enjoyed being a homemaker. She is survived by a loving family and friends, and will be greatly missed by them. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, William Oehlecker.

A funeral service will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, February 6, 2017, at 11:00 am with burial at a later date in East Tn State Veterans Cemetery.

Kathie Diane Jackson

Kathie Diane Jackson, age 56, of Crossville TN, passed away on January 31st 2017.

Kathie loved her whole family and enjoyed cooking for get-togethers, talking with her friends and family (One would say she was quite the chatterbox!), spoiling the grandkids with love, and an overall love for animals! Her favorite movie was “A Dog’s Purpose”. If you knew her, you could always find her camping or just being outside enjoying the outdoors.

Kathie is survived by: husband- Doug Jackson; daughter- Kerrie (Desmond) Thompson; step-children- MaryAnn and DJ Jackson; grandchildren- Jakob Turner and Jacee Thompson; step-grandchildren; brothers- Lynn Downs and Ronnie Cox.

She was preceded in death by: mother- Della Mae Meade; and brother- Ricky Cox.

Services will be held at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, Friday February 3rd, Visitation 12-2p and Funeral Service at 2pm. She will be laid to rest at the Crossville City Cemetery.

Daisy S. Brown

Daisy Brown, age 92, was born on January 15, 1925 to Mark and Betty Sullivan in Linary, TN and passed away in Crossville, TN on January 26, 2017. Working is what Daisy enjoyed most whether it was at her job at Crossville Rubber Factory or at home. She loved cooking, spending time in her garden and was well known as the “Apple Lady” selling apples on Hwy. 127.

She is survived by her daughter- Phyllis Henry (David); grandchildren- Scarlett Chadwell (David) and Tim Henry (Ashley); great grandchildren-Anna Caroline Henry, Jackson Henry, and Tyson Chadwell; brothers- Fred and Menzo Sullivan; and sister- Elizabeth York.

Daisy was preceded in death by her parents- Mark Sullivan, Sr. and Betty Hayes Sullivan; husband- Wilker Brown; and brothers- Mark Jr., Milford and James Sullivan.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 12 to 2 with the service to follow at 2. Burial will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens with Al Watkins and Jim Pritt officiating.

Ida Mae Wiley

Ida Mae Wiley was born August 6, 1943 to the late Samuel and Goldie Bryant, and passed away January 24, 2017. Ida was a very outgoing person who loved people, she enjoyed singing and doing ceramic art; Ida owned her own ceramic business, but most of all she loved bowling and always said that nothing could come between her and bowling.

Ida Mae is survived by her daughter- Michele Hennessee (Ted), grandchildren- Samuel Hennessee, Heidi Hennessee, Amber White and Chadd White, brothers- Samuel and Wayne Bryant.

She is preceded in death by her mother- Goldie Mae Campfield, father- Samuel Austin Bryant, husband- Michael D. Wiley, son- Anthony White, and brother- Michael Eugene Bryant.

A viewing will be held for Ida Mae Wiley on January 26, 2017 at Trinity Tabernacle at 4:00 PM with a service to follow. Burial will be Saturday at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, IN at 11:00 AM Eastern Time.

Ben Eston Smith

Smith obit0001Ben Eston Smith, age 81, was born October 23, 1935 to Isaac and Eva Smith in Overton Co., TN and passed away on January 13, 2017 in Crossville, TN. He was an electrician, plumber and family man who loved his grand babies.

He is survived by his sons- Jimmy, Frankie, Jackie (Pam), Michael, David, Terry, and Gary (Angie) Smith; daughters- Loretta Reed (Lane) and Lillian Smith; grandchildren- Dustin, Darrin, Amy, Levi, and Gage Smith, Alesha (Ryan) Gibson, Adam Smith, Colin Hitchcock, and Thomas Reed; great grandchildren- Eli, Ethan, and Emory Smith, Rylee adn Corbin Gibson; and sisters- Lois Rodgers and Ruth Smith.

Ben is preceded in  death by Charlie, Marie, Blanche and Ethel Smith and his parents- Isaac Balem and Eva Jane Smith.
