Suzanne Renee Sander

Suzanne Renee Sander, age 70, of Crossville, TN passed away on October 24, 2020 at her home.  Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of James Freeman and Doshia Elizabeth (Hicks) Freeman.  She was a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church (HBC) in Hamilton, VA, Bible Study Fellowship and the HBC Woman’s Ministry Leadership. Renee was a veteran of the United States Navy and US Navy Reserves, serving as an Air Traffic Controller and special assistant to the COO of US Naval Air Station, Jacksonville FL. After an Honorable Discharge, she worked for Eastern Airlines, as a Ticket Agent, Hostess of the Ionosphere Club and later Chief Agent at BWI Airport, Md.  Following these assignments she worked as a SATO Travel Agent at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Walter Reed Hospital. Renee was an avid reader, loved gardening, sewing, arts and crafts and international travel. Renee cherished her time with all of her family and many lifelong friends. She was a loving mother devoted to her son CJ; he was the joy in her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tom W. Freeman.

Renee is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles C Sander; son, Charles C Sander Jr. (CJ) of Ashburn, VA; brothers, Tim Freeman of Fallston, MD, Mark Freeman, Bel Air, MD, Jim Freeman, Jarrettsville MD, and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Hamilton Baptist Church in Hamilton, VA at a future date.  In Lieu of Flowers or Cards, Renee requested that contributions be made in her name to the Hospice of Cumberland County 30 East Adams Street Crossville, TN 38555 “A Non-Profit Organization”

James Glenn Cole

Graveside services for James Cole, age 80, will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 2:00 in Crossville City Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie Cole; son, Jimmy Cole; daughters, Cynthia Potter and Kristel Zaragoza; grandchildren, Makaylah Creason, Kirsten Potter, Taylor Potter, Andres Zaragoza, Adam Zaragoza, and Alex Zaragoza; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Creason and Abel Creason; sister, Susie Kiedrowski.

Roger Dean Jarrett

Graveside services for Roger Dean Jarrett, 76, of Crossville, will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 12:00 in Crossville City Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Jarrett; children, Donna Jarrett and Rodney Jarrett; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.

Fleta Brookhart

Fleta Norris Brookhart, born December 18, 1929, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 3:30 pm in Crossville City Cemetery. 


Fleta lived most of her life in Dayton, Ohio where she raised her daughters and cared for her mother.  She worked at and retired from AT&T.  She moved back to Crossville in 2006 after the death of her mother the previous year.


Fleta was always so grateful for the love, support and care she received from her friends in Dayton and family, friends and neighbors she had in Crossville.  She attended Old Fashioned Independent Baptist Church.


She was preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Wakefield Henry, Opal Wakefield Brookhart and A.J. Wakefield; her mother, Minnie Bartholomew Burkhart and her husband, Hurshel Brookhart.  She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Mike) Harshe of Manassas, Virginia and Karen Mulhern of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Carey (Shawn) Ramandanes and Joe (Sora) Belcher; and great-granddaughters, Michaela and Paige Ramandanes all of Manassas, Virginia.

Fleta loved to dance, was in a bowling league, loved gardening, gospel and country music.  She collected telephone company memorabilia and anything bakelite.  She loved exotic plants, antiques, treasure hunts at thrift stores, pinto beans and cornbread and wouldn’t miss Dancing with the Stars.  She had a wicked sense of humor and was a good and humble friend.  She will be missed.

Tracy Lynn Mersereau

Tracy Lynn Mersereau of Crossville, age 49, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her family and pets. Born with physical and intellectual disabilities, Tracy faced her challenges in life with courage, dignity, grace, and a very sweet spirit.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Russell and Joyce Mersereau, grandparents John and Marion Paige, and her uncle Kevin Mersereau. She is survived by her parents Jim and Linda Mersereau of Crossville; brothers Rick Mersereau of Crossville; Tom Mersereau (Elizabeth) of San Antonio, TX; and Adam Mersereau of Crossville.

A memorial service will be held at Oak Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 3:00 with Pastor Jim Mersereau officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations to Hilltoppers of Crossville are suggested.

Richard Lee Jones

Richard Lee Jones, 77, of Crossville, formerly of Darlington, Maryland, went home to the Lord on October 25, 2020.  He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.  Richard retired from the Kunkel Service Company after 30 years and worked on the U. S. Army facility Aberdeen Proving Ground before moving to Crossville.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucy A. Jones; granddaughter, Stephanie Rachelle Yox; grandson, Christopher Hatfield; two great grandsons; one great granddaughter; sister, Joyce Jones; and his adopted family, Michael and April Leitner.

He is preceded in death by his son, Mark A. Jones and his daughter Karen A. Yox.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 9-11AM, services following the visitation with Pastor William Bonee and Pastor Greg Keller officiating in the Family Life Center at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2565 N. Main St., Crossville, TN 38555. He will be laid to rest in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta, Pennsylvania.

Charles Eldon Parker (Charley)

Charles Eldon Parker (Charley), of Crossville, TN, passed away on October 24, 2020 at Hospice of Cumberland County. He was 94 years old.

Charley was born in Waverly, TN on May 9, 1926 – the third of four brothers – to Charlie Murray Parker and Nora Hall Parker. His brothers are Ernest, Lawrence Ellis, and Murray Eugene Parker.

A graduate of Waverly High School in 1944, Charley served in the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II as an aircraft mechanic. He married Katherine Lucille Miller from Waverly in 1947. They moved to Michigan in the late 1940s. Charley spent more than 40 years as a railroad engineer with CSX systems and retired as the highest seniority engineer in the entire Great Lakes Region of that company.

He was an active member in the Masonic Blue Lodge and a member of the Shriners. On April 2, 2018 Charley received his 60-year Masonic membership pin from Crossville Lodge #483.

In 1986, Charley and Kitty relocated from Michigan to Clyde, North Carolina where they resided until Kitty passed away in February of 1993.

On October 2, 1994 Charley married Geri Phipps and relocated to Crossville, TN. During their marriage, he was involved in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club, and Geri remains active in the Eastern Star.

Charley is survived by his wife, Geri, of Crossville, TN; his two sons and their wives – Charles and Denise, and Phillip and Shannon Parker, all of Sweetwater, TN; his youngest brother, Murray Eugene Parker of Smyrna, TN; and his step children, Sue Tropae and husband, Tony, Ron Merritt and wife, Linda, and Alan Merritt and wife, Karen, and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in passing by his wife, Katherine Parker; his eldest brother, Ernest Parker; and his second oldest brother, Lawrence Ellis Parker.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home from 11 – 1. Funeral services will also be held on Wednesday following visitation with Ron Dyer officiating. He will be laid to rest in Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tolletts Chapel Methodist Church.

Marilyn Lambart

Marilyn Louise Lambart, age 68, was born August 5, 1952 in Jamestown, TN and passed away October 22, 2020.

The family will receive friends on, Monday, October 26, 2020 from 11 to 1 with a service to follow. Bro. Mike McCoy will officiate and burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.
