Debra Rutledge, age 69, was born on May 9, 1952 to Rhae and Dorothy Evans Browder in Harriman, TN. She passed away on February 10, 2022 in Knoxville, TN.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Kenneth George Belz (Crossville, TN), who passed away on February 11, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born on July 21, 1937 to Charlie and Ivy Belz in Era, TX.
Kenneth’s career was centered at Lockheed Martin for 42 years, working on many projects as a Contracts Manager, Business Manager, and a Supervisor for his team, receiving many awards for excellence.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Ivy Lousie Lambert Belz.
He is survived by his wife Linda Belz; children Lisa Ann Rexinger and Scott Alan (Karen) Belz; and grandchildren Matthew, Hannah, Megan and Casey.
Edward “Ed” H. Stone, native of Greensboro, Georgia and son of Joseph Ellison and Nellie Evelyn Little Stone, passed away on February 11, 2022, at the age of 81 in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Fran Grainger Stone and their two daughters, Robyn (Rod) Isaacs; Lori (Jon) Badgett; four grandchildren, Stone and Dylan Isaacs and Ellie and Anna Badgett. He is proceeded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Ed’s involvement with the Methodist Church and Boy Scouts early on led him to an accomplished career in the travel and tourism industry. After graduating from the University of Georgia’s Journalism and Mass Communication School, his career began at Callaway Gardens where he met his wife, Fran. Their family moved to Nashville with Opryland USA in 1974 where he became Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for the park, hotel and the Grand Ole Opry. In 1990, he started his own communications company with regional and national accounts. During his career, he served in leadership roles with Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), SATW Foundation, Travel Industry Association of America (TIAA), Southeast Tourism Society (STS), International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), University of Georgia College of Mass Communications, and Sequoyah Birthplace Museum.
An avid golfer, Ed played over 500 courses throughout the world and promoted travel with the sport until the very end. The lifelong friendships Ed made during his career meant the world to him. His greatest joys in life included spending time with family and friends, golfing with his buddies, traveling the world with Fran, and anything and everything related to Country Music. He supported his daughters in their careers, his grandchildren in their sports and hobbies, and loved his many dachshunds over the years. Ed celebrated most days with a 5pm Dewars with beloved friends at Pelican Sound or Fairfield Glade.
A casual Celebration of Life and Farewell Party is planned for March 25th at 1pm at the Country Music Hall of Fame Ford Theater.
Barbara Garrett, age 90, was born on January 14, 1932 to Tom and Hazel Noe Layne in Matewan, WV. She passed away on January 23, 2022 in Crossville, TN.
She was buried in Green Acres Memory Gardens on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
Barry Michael Bolin, age 72, was born on October 6, 1949 to William Cecil and Reva Warner Bolin in Crossville, TN. He passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in Cookeville, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bolin; siblings Joel (Malisa) Bolin, Greg (Rachel) Bolin, Gary Burl Bolin, Judy Bunch, and Karen Bosco.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Phillip Stanley Bolin; and his sister Angela Bolin Pickett.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11am to 2pm with the service to follow at 2pm. He will be buried at Seals Cemetery immediately following the service.
Sue Music, age 79, was born on April 7, 1942 to Floyd and Lela Pugh in Crab Orchard, TN. She passed away in her home on February 3, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lela Barnwell Pugh.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 12p-2p at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2p. She will be buried at Music Cemetery immediately following the service.
William Leslie Burgess Jr., age 93, of Crossville, Tennessee died on Saturday, January 29, 2022, formerly of Bedford, Pennsylvania.
He was born on July, 16, 1928 in DeLeon, Texas, the son of the late William Leslie Burgess Sr. and Ora Grace (Jenkins) Burgess.
On January 3, 1987 he married the former Carol Jean (Furnari) Flanigan in Fairfax County, Virginia. She survives him.
He is also survived by a daughter, Tammy Jane Burgess of Manassas, Virginia, a son, John Carter Burgess the husband of the former Kathleen Ann Wyrick, a granddaughter, Kaila Noelle Burgess, and a stepdaughter, Eve Marie Flanigan of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Mr. Burgess was a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church of Crossville, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 through 1969, retiring in the rank of Commander. He flew 103 combat missions during the Korean War and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and six combat Air medals. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland and served four tours in Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E). He also graduated from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he worked for the Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, New York and Hercules Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia, retiring in 1991.
Friends will be received on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 2:00-3:00pm at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church with a service immediately following at 3:00pm.
